Attributes are the New Money

 Share  Print  Email

Yes, I said it. Since then I’ve been asked often enough about what I meant by it, that I thought I would provide an explanation.

I use the term "money" here in the traditional sense of describing a medium of exchange.

My personal perspective is that in the current online environment, our personal identity attributes should be considered items of great value.

As such, the manner in which they are protected and how they are shared/used/transferred/monetized should be under our personal control and only by our choice. Similar to how we treat money.

I also happen to think, similar to many others, that those who seek to use and monetize my personal identity attributes should treat it with the care, and have associated levels of accountability, one brings to handling toxic waste.
